ERAMET Sandouville and three French Aubert & Duval units told a wide audience about their activity and know-how during the last edition of La Semaine de l’Industrie that took place in France from March 18th to 24th, 2013. This national event involves firms across France in a drive to raise awareness of the industrial world and its businesses and issues among students, professionals and the general public.

Organising a tour of the ERAMET Sandouville facilities

The Sandouville plant took advantage of the event to organise a tour of its facilities on Tuesday March 19th for the 7th year running. The unit is familiar with the exercise, which requires special care as Sandouville is a “SEVESO high threshold” classified site.

Welcoming around 30 visitors to the site – neighbours, students or employees’ families – while it is active calls for flawless preparation and coordination. The work mobilises an entire team headed by Solange Barbier, a member of the Human Resources department: “The satisfaction survey showed that the visitors appreciated the welcome and our emphasis on safety, and were surprised by how complex our process is. Several people found the explanations highly technical but understandable.” Industrial safety was of course a major topic during the tour. It ensures the visit goes smoothly but is also part of the concerns voiced by visitors. It’s an opportunity for Sandouville to show how professional its safety control and alert procedures are.

But the subject that most captivated visitors was, of course, the unit’s technological expertise in hydrometallurgy. The general public may be unfamiliar with this industrial activity but Sandouville is a world leader on its markets!

Informing about jobs at Aubert & Duval’s

At Aubert & Duval, employees rallied round the issue of access to jobs.

The plant in Pamiers organised two “discovery” visits to inform students and job seekers about the skills and professions it is looking for.

In Auvergne, the Issoire and Les Ancizes units took part in “Le Village de l’Industrie”. The event organised in Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday, March 23rd by the Auvergne metallurgy federation (IUMM) let visitors find out about jobs and training in the industry, discover the products made by the region’s businesses and dialogue with young apprentices in the sector. In addition, Aubert & Duval attended the jobs fair organised by Midi-Pyrénées IUMM in Toulouse on Friday, March 22nd to connect industrial firms with students and job seekers.

Finally, the following week, on Wednesday March 26th, in Clermont station, Aubert & Duval also took part in “Train de l’industrie et de l’Innovation” to showcase its industrial and technological know-how. This special train, chartered by the French ministry for industry, is touring France, making 18 stops to promote national excellence in industrial creativity.

The next Semaine de l’Industrie is scheduled for April 7th-13th, 2014.
