Eramet ambitions to be a responsible mining company and sets itself the target to contribute to the well-being of people, the environment and the planet. Thus, building on the long-term success of its Open Innovation program, Eramet is launching an Innovation Challenge focused on a key challenge for humankind: preserving biodiversity.

Invasive alien species are one of the most significant drivers of biodiversity loss worldwide. Human activities have increased the introduction and spread of these non-native species in environments they would otherwise be unable to colonize naturally.

Through this challenge Eramet aims to explore innovative strategies that mitigate the impact of invasive alien species, to not only our operations worldwide, but the broader mining community.

Innovators from around the world, ranging from researchers, startups, scaleups and SMEs are invited to take part in the Eramet Biodiversity Challenge from 29 October 2024 to 14 January 2025.  The company is looking for innovative solutions that can detect, monitor, contain and control invasive alien flora and fauna species. Selected innovators will be given the opportunity to receive funding to scale up and trial their technology at relevant Eramet sites and receive promotion to the broader mining industry through the Unearthed network.

Eramet integrates biodiversity preservation within all its activities and is developing plans toward an overall net positive contribution to biodiversity. Open Innovation is a fantastic source of opportunities to speed up supporting new ideas to help us reach this goal. By reaching beyond our corporate borders, we find high-quality solutions that help us meet our challenges.
