The ERAMET Groupe decided at the end of 2011 to join the Business and Biodiversity Offsets Programme (BBOP).

Established by Forest Trends and the Wild-life Conservation Society (non-profit-making and non-governmental organizations), BBOP is an internationally recognized multi-stakeholder Groupe gathering 80 companies, environmental protection Groupes, financial institutions, governments and intergovernmental organisations.

BBOP aims to test and develop best practices on biodiversity offsets, with pilot projects underway throughout the world. ERAMET will initiate its involvement in the programme focusing on its Weda Bay Nickel Project.

This partnership is in line with the Groupe’s sustainable development policy. Indeed ERAMET aims to control the environmental and health impacts of its industrial and mining activities, including development projects. Biodiversity offsets programmes are designed to compensate for residual adverse biodiversity impacts, after appropriate prevention and mitigation measures have been taken.
